The other day I told Kai I was thinking about a hair cut since his surfer hair was growing in all different lengths and needed a trim.
"Mom? Can I cut my hair? Into a mohawk?" he asked. His eyes were shining and he told me he was a big boy.
"That would look great on you!" I told him and he was excited. He wanted to make sure it was the kind that could stand up.
Grandma Marissa has a lady that cuts her hair and we met at their house for a backyard haircut. Afterward, he was itchy and just wanted to take a bath. I had a wedding this morning, but when I got home he asked if we could "Spike it up". I sprayed it with hairspray and he asked to see it in the mirror.
I wish I had a video camera going when he saw himself in the mirror. He grinned ear to ear. He was so proud of his new haircut. He immediately ran to get his new shoes and asked if we could do a quick photo shoot.
He is growing SO MUCH. He is eating more too, which makes me happy. Today he ate a whole bowl of tunafish all by himself.
Here's my big boy - styled by himself and showing off his new haircut.

As for me, I have started juicing like a fiend - mostly veggies - and completed my first 5 day juice fast over the Easter holiday. It felt really nice to finish that - a true test of my will power!
Easter itself was very challenging. The kids were up at just after 5am and Peter and I were too tired to really photograph much. Sad, I know. The kids had a great time hunting for their goodies. Ry had all her candy hidden in the kitchen, Kai in the dining room, and Cruz had the living room. It was awesome that they all had a different area so they knew what belonged to who. Then we went to our friend Aris and Heidi's house for a big egg hunt and eats. Peter and I really wanted a nap! hehe
I don't know if I reported that Ryenne lost BOTH her front teeth - one of her permanent teeth popped through the other day, so it's a matter of time before she has an oversized front tooth.
We've been making farm visits every Sunday and the kids go fishing in Nui's ponds. I've been busy with photography and going to physical therapy twice a week for my shoulder. There hasn't been any improvement so I'm going back to the doctor on Wednesday and the therapist put in the notes that I should have an MRI. Shoulder is pretty much useless and it's to the point where Peter has to carry the laundry basket, move big pans, ect.
Last weekend I took the kids to the Maui Ag Festival (by myself so not lots of pictures). That was really fun because they all got to ride a pony, pet a donkey, and see some Texas Longhorns!
Texas Longhorn! |
Petting Rosebud the Donkey |
Cruz finishing up swim lessons |
Cruz put underwear and a bike helmet on and declared himself a Ninja. |

Ryenne-ism
We were driving down to swimming lessons this morning - this was the last of this session and it was at the beach.
On the way down, we were talking about recycling and what it means to recycle. And Ry had this to say:
"I just don't understand. If everyone would just put some rice in their used water bottles, everyone would have maracas and we wouldn't have any rubbish."
Moments like those are too cute to not write down!

Vegucated Moview Review
Last night I watched a documentary called Vegucated, and I just
wanted to throw my opinion out there. This film is very well done and is
all about being Vegan. It shows how animals are slaughtered and stored
(it’s really awful and eye opening) - BUT - I think they are completely
missing the point on a lot of current issues regarding what we eat.
This film talks about how we can swap out meat intake with soy alternatives (soy hot dogs, soy burgers, soy milk) and enjoy pasta, breads, beans, ect. They even show that Oreo’s are vegan friendly. The big problem I have with all of this is that A) it seems like this thing was sponsored by soy farmers and it paid no attention at all to the phyto-estrogens and the detrimental affect they have on people and B) it made it seem like you can get all these processed “health” foods and we'll maintain optimal health. Which isn't the case at all. Soy is terrible for you! And there was zero discussion of GMO's. None.
Another thing that bothered me was that it showed the conditions of chickens in regular egg farms as well as organic egg farms (still bad) but there was no mention about how wonderful it is to get eggs from farmers where you can actually see the chickens running around (or even if you have your own chickens) and they are happy and lovely. I realize they were trying to say MEAT and ANIMAL PRODUCTS = BAD, but they missed the mark on other options.
They did highlight that the demand for meat has skyrocketed with our booming population. People want to consume meats with every meal. More demand means they need to produce more meat in any way necessary (have you seen the size of chicken breasts nowadays? Those are genetically modified chickens! They can’t even walk!). With the demand, animals are mistreated, medicated, hurt, and slaughtered inhumanely.
I don’t find this particularly necessary or natural. I’m finding that my paleo plan works the best if I have meat a couple times a week (after all, I highly doubt that our cave-people ancestors had access to hunting meat at all times AND I highly doubt that they would have said no to non-gmo corn, chick-peas, ect). If people of our world did cut back on the amount of meat we consume, we WOULD have healthier farms and would be able to care more for the animals that we are going to consume. I did agree with that part of the movie.
Overall, it was eye opening in regards to regular farming practices and the cruelty that goes on (again… bawled over here), but there are farms that do still care for their animals and farms where we can buy eggs straight from the farmer. It’s our choice as consumers what type of food we are going to eat. If we all make the right choices, big business would need to follow our lead.

Lots to post but no time at the moment. Will have updates soon! But in the meantime, Peter got this great shot of me tickling the monkeys today. I love it!
